In 2017, Canada celebrated its 150th anniversary. As the Capital of Canada, the City of Ottawa was the epicenter for the celebrations. The City of Ottawa awarded Northern Griots Network - VISUAL17E Ottawa as 1 of 14 projects picked from 150 submissions to receive funding to create a vibrant experiences that would highlight Ottawa’s diverse arts, culture and heritage offerings during Canada’s sesquicentennial celebrations. NGN had a fantastic year! COME VIEW THE HIGHLIGHTS ! We were proud to be partner in the celebrations!

The #VISUAL17E Grounding, presented by the Northern Griots Network at The Origin Arts & Community Centre on December 9, was a brilliant blend of poetry and painting: this is one example with Roua Aljied, aka Philosi-fire speaking courageous words in conjunction with the incredible images of Kalkidan Assefa. Some of the artwork created for the project will remain on display at Origin.
